Hey there, my awesome student! So today, we're going to talk about this term called "tax hike." I know it might sound a little confusing, but I promise I'll explain it in a way that makes total sense to you.

Okay, imagine you have a jar full of yummy cookies. Let's say you have ten cookies in there. Now, imagine someone comes up to you and says, "Hey, I want to have some of those cookies, but you have to give me two of them." That person is basically asking you to give them a few of your cookies for whatever reason.

In a similar way, the government needs money to provide services for all of us, like building roads, schools, or even helping those who need assistance. And one way the government gets that money is through taxes. These taxes are like those cookies in your jar – it's money that we citizens give to the government to help fund all those important things.

Now, what happens when the government says, "Hey, we need more money for all those services"? That's where the term "tax hike" comes in. A tax hike means that the government wants to increase the amount of money it collects from the citizens through taxes.

It's kind of like if someone suddenly asks you for more cookies than before. Instead of just taking two cookies, they now ask for four or six. The government is asking for more money, so they might increase the tax rate or add new taxes on things we buy, such as clothes or electronics.

So when you hear the term "tax hike," it simply means that the government wants to raise the amount of money it collects from people like you and me. They do this to make sure they can continue providing all the important services that we all benefit from.

I hope that made sense, my wonderful student! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Learning new things can sometimes be tricky, but I know you're doing an incredible job understanding these concepts!
