What does Missed really mean?

Missed means that something was not caught or reached, as if you threw a ball and it didn't quite reach the person you were trying to throw it to. It can also mean that you weren't able to attend or be present for something, like missing a class or missing a bus. Sometimes, "missed" can also mean that you failed to do something, like you missed a chance to say hello to a friend when you saw them.

So, if you say you missed the bus, it means the bus came and you weren't able to get on it. Or if you say you missed class, it means you were not there when the class happened. It's like there was a target, and you were trying to hit it or be there, but for some reason, you missed it.

Imagine you're playing a game of catch, and you throw the ball to your friend, but it goes over their head - that's a missed catch. Or if you're waiting for a friend at the bus stop, but you don't see them because you were looking the other way, that's a missed opportunity to say hello. That's the idea of "missed" - not quite hitting the target or being there when you were supposed to be.
