Engram for Dummies

Engram is a term used in psychology and neuroscience to describe the physical changes that happen in the brain when we form a memory. So, when we learn something new or experience something, our brain creates these engrams, or memory traces, that help us store the information for later use. It's kind of like when you take a picture with a camera and it gets saved on the camera's memory card, except in this case it's your brain that's "saving" the memory for you to remember later. Short-term memory engrams are for the things you need to remember now, like a phone number or a list of items you need to buy at the store. Long-term memory engrams are for the things you want to remember for a long time, like your favorite childhood memories or how to ride a bike. So, basically, engrams are like little codes or files that your brain creates to help you remember and recall things. They're like labels for your memories that your brain uses to organize and store all the information you learn throughout your life. Cool, right?
