What does Underneath really mean?

Underneath means "below or beneath something else." It's like when you sit in a chair and someone puts a blanket on top of you, but you can still feel the chair underneath the blanket. That's because the chair is underneath the blanket. So, when something is underneath something else, it means it is in a lower position or it is covered by something or hidden by something else.

For example, imagine you have a big pile of books on your table. If you move those books away, you will see what's underneath them. It could be a clean surface, another object, or even some dust. The things that were hidden by those books are now underneath them.

Not only objects can be underneath other objects, but also places or even feelings. Let's say you have a secret treasure buried in your backyard. That treasure is underneath the ground because it's buried there. It's hidden and protected by the soil. You can't see it unless you dig it out. In this case, the ground is underneath the treasure.

So, when we talk about underneath, we are talking about one thing being covered or hidden by something else, or it can also refer to a lower position or place compared to something else. It's like a secret waiting to be discovered or something that's hidden from sight. Does that make sense?
