Prejudicial for Dummies

Prejudicial is a word that we use to describe something that causes harm or has a negative impact on someone or something. It's like when we make a decision about someone or something based on our biases or opinions, without taking the time to really understand or get to know them. It's kind of like when you judge a book by its cover, without reading the words inside.

Let me give you an example. Imagine you have a new student who joins our class and they have a different skin color than most of the other students. Now, if we were to treat this student differently or unfairly, without giving them a chance to show who they truly are, that would be prejudicial behavior. It's like we're making a judgment about them based solely on their appearance, without considering their character, talents, or abilities.

Prejudicial behavior can also happen when we make assumptions about someone just because they belong to a certain group or have certain characteristics. Imagine if I told you that all tall people are bad at playing sports. That would be a prejudicial statement because I'm generalizing and assuming something negative about a whole group of people based on their height.

So, to put it simply, when something is prejudicial, it means it can cause harm or unfair treatment by making judgments about someone or something without really knowing or considering all the facts. It's important for all of us to be aware of our own prejudices and to treat everyone with kindness and fairness, regardless of how they look or where they come from.
