Alright, so Magellan is someone who was a really important explorer a long time ago. His full name is Ferdinand Magellan. He was from Portugal, and he went on a really big journey to try and find a way to sail all the way around the world. This was a really big deal, because back then, a lot of people thought the world was flat and that you would fall off the edge if you sailed too far. But Magellan and his crew proved them wrong by sailing all the way across the Atlantic Ocean, through the tip of South America, and into the Pacific Ocean. Even though Magellan didn't actually make it all the way around the world himself, his expedition was the very first to do it. So when you hear someone talk about Magellan, they're usually talking about this really famous journey he went on. He was a really brave and determined guy who wanted to explore the world, and that's why he's remembered as a really important figure in history.
